About usHistory 1937: Leo Bouzaid founders 'Sails and Covers' in Auckland. The business manufactured sails and canvas goods for the yachting, shipping and commercial trades. Leo was a keen sailor and a well known character around the New Zealand boating scene. Under his guidance the business flourished. 1950: P V C fabric technology was taking off around the world and Leo foresaw the future potential in the fabric. He took a chance and bought New Zealand's first high frequency P V C welding machine. 1962: In 1962 Leo died and his two sons, Tony and Chris took over the business. Both sons were world renowned yachtsmen and brought their vision and determination to the business. The polymer fabric side of the business grew substantially through the 60's and 70's and was eventually split off from the sail business. 1987: In 1987 it was decided that there was a need in the market for a company that could concentrate on providing specialised products and services with polymer fabrics. With the same vision and determination Matthew Bouzaid, the son of Tony, started Covertex. From it's small beginning Covertex has grown to be a leader in a number of its' specialised fields. 1996: Matthew knew that, based on his father and grandfather's business, quality was always the top priority when manufacturing product. This quality culture had always permeated all the Bouzaid ventures. In 1996 Covertex's dedication to quality was officially recognised when they gained ISO 9002 accreditation. The Future
